What is Sudoku?

Sudoku is a logic-based, combinatorial number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a grid (typically 9x9) with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the subgrids (also called "boxes" or "blocks") that compose the grid contain all of the digits from 1 to the size of the grid. Our game offers various grid sizes (4x4, 6x6, and 9x9) to suit different skill levels.

How to Play Sudoku

  1. Understand the Goal: Fill every empty cell in the grid.
  2. Follow the Rules:
    • Each row must contain each digit exactly once.
    • Each column must contain each digit exactly once.
    • Each subgrid (box) must contain each digit exactly once.
  3. Use Logic: Use the process of elimination to figure out which number goes in each cell. The pre-filled cells are your clues.

Game Controls and Options

Our Japanese Sudoku game is designed to be intuitive and easy to play on any device. Here are the controls:

Mouse and Touch Controls:

  • Select a Cell: Click or tap on any cell in the grid to select it.
  • Cycle Numbers: Clicking a selected cell will cycle through the possible numbers (1 to 9, or 1 to 4/6 depending on grid size). If you click past the highest number, the cell will be cleared.

Keyboard Controls:

  • Navigate: Use the Arrow Keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to move between cells.
  • Enter a Number: With a cell selected, press a number key (1-9) to place that number in the cell.
  • Cycle Numbers: Press Enter or the Spacebar to cycle through numbers in the selected cell.
  • Clear a Cell: Press Backspace or Delete to clear the number from the selected cell.

Buttons and Options:

  • Number Pad: Below the grid, you'll find number buttons (either Arabic numerals or Japanese Kanji). Click a cell and then a number button to fill it.
  • Clear Button: Use the "Clear" button (with a trash icon) to empty the selected cell.
  • New Game Button: Starts a new puzzle. You can choose the same difficulty and size or change them.
  • Switch to Kanji/Numbers Button: Toggle between playing with standard numbers and Japanese Kanji characters (一, 二, 三, etc.). This is a great way to practice your Japanese numbers!
  • Difficulty Selector: Choose between "Easy", "Medium", and "Hard". This determines how many numbers are pre-filled.
  • Size Selector: Choose the grid size: 4x4, 6x6, or 9x9. Smaller grids are great for beginners or a quick game.
